Announcement of the governmental bicycle promotion plan by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos

World Bicycle Day on June 3, and the bicycle, finally promoted as an individual means of urban transport.

The Minister will meet with the Spanish Bicycle Board (CBG), consisting of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC), the Association of Professional Cyclists (ACP), the Association of Bicycle Brands of Spain (AMBE), Bicycle Tourists and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA Spain).

According to Ábalos, the government’s goal is to “promote other, less polluting means of transport”. The measure that contributes to promoting intermodality, in particular by increasing the number of bicycle parking facilities at stations, plays a prominent role in the package of measures.

This plan allows the representative of the Spanish Bicycle Board (MEB) and AMBE secretary, Carlos Núñez, to put the measures, already requested from the Government to promote the use of bicycles, back on the table.

The requests of the Association of Bicycle Brands of Spain were aimed at requiring the purchase of bicycles and e-bikes and their use as a means of transport.

In addition, AMBE proposes direct and indirect economic incentives to promote bicycles, such as purchase assistance, reduction of the VAT on this vehicle or exemption from income tax for employees who usethe bicycle to go to work.
